Homelessness is one of the most urgent and visible social challenges of our time, affecting millions of people across the globe. In Europe, it is not only a humanitarian concern but also a violation of the fundamental human right to adequate housing. This course explores homelessness through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), connecting the reality on the streets with global commitments to end poverty, reduce inequalities, and ensure inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities.

Over the course of 8 hours, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of homelessness, its multiple causes, and its devastating social, economic, and health consequences. Special attention will be given to the right to housing in European legal and policy frameworks, and to innovative, evidence-based solutions such as the Housing First model, rapid re-housing, and diversion strategies.

By the end of this MOOC, learners will be equipped with knowledge and practical insights to better understand homelessness as a complex, multidimensional issue and to critically evaluate policy approaches that aim to eradicate it, in alignment with the SDGs and the principles of human rights.
